Bienala Internațională de Gravură Experimentală ediția a 7-a (IEEB7) cu tema Istorii Fabricate. Adevăr și ficțiune în istoria recentă, prezintă expoziția și performance-ul artistei Elana Katz (DE), Lying with My Partner.
Proiectul este realizat cu sprijinul Institutului Goethe din București.

Katz lucrează cu o colecție de pietre funerare pe care le-a găsit aruncate la gunoi într-un cimitir din Berlin. Originea acestora aparține unei zone a cimitirului dedicată "victimelor" celui de-al Doilea Război Mondial: bărbații și femeile au fost soldați germani, ofițeri de poliție, ofițeri ai forțelor aeriene, personal SS, prizonieri de război și civili.
Lying with My Partner este a doua lucrare a artistei în conexiune cu aceste pietre, ca urmare a seriei Unnamed din 2013. Ambele lucrări aparțin ideii de confruntare a umanității nenumitului celălalt, precum și a subiectelor precum ascunderea, protecția și memoria. Această nouă lucrare subliniază ideea de a fi, în nemișcare și posibil în dependență cu celălalt.
Elana Katz este o artistă conceptuală care lucrează în mediul artei performative. Operele sale confruntă convențiile culturale, examinează în mod critic complexitatea care se află în contradicții, și, astfel, își propune să creeze o experiență de dezvățare a presupusului. Bursele sale au inclus Grantul DAAD de studii universitare pentru Germania (2010), Fondul Franklin Furnace pentru Artă Performativă (2011), iar lucrarea în curs de desfășurare privind ștergerea istorică Memorie Spațiată (2011-prezent), pentru care lucrează în România, Moldova și în regiunea fostei Iugoslavii, a fost realizată în colaborare cu Institutul Goethe din București, Centrele Goethe din Cluj și Iași, Ambasada SUA din Kosovo și ale ambasadelor Israelului din Serbia și România. Katz a expus / performat la Muzeul Regal de Arte Frumoase din Belgia (2011), Diehl CUB Berlin (2013), Galeria P.P.O.W., New York (2013), Centrul Stacion pentru Artă Contemporană, Pristina (2014), Kunstwechsel, Aachen (2015), DNA Berlin (2015), și ROCKELMANN& Berlin (2016). A studiat la New York, la Școala de Design Parsons și are un Masterat de la Universitatea de Arte din Berlin (Clasa Katharinei Sieverding). Katz locuiește la Berlin din 2008. www.elanakatz.eu

The 7th edition of the International Experimental Engraving Biennial (IEEB7) with the concept Fabricated Histories. Fact and Fiction in Recent History presents the exhibition and performance by Elana Katz (DE), Lying with My Partner

Katz works with gravestones that she found discarded at a Berlin cemetery garbage. The stones are from an area of the cemetery dedicated to “victims” from World War II: the men and women were German soldiers, police officers, air force officers, prisoners of war, and civilians.
Lying with My Partner is the artist’s second work connected with these stones, following her 2013 body of work Unnamed. Both pieces pertain to confronting the humanity of the nameless other, as well as the topics of concealment, protection, and memory. This new work emphasizes being, in stillness and perhaps even dependency, with this other.
Elana Katz is a conceptual artist working primarily in the medium of performance art. Katz’s work confronts cultural conventions, critically examines the complexity that lies within contradictions, and thus aims to create an experience of unlearning the assumed. Her grants have included the DAAD Graduate Studies Grant for Germany (2010), Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Art (2011), and her ongoing work concerning historical erasure Spaced Memory (2011-present), in which she works in Romania. Moldova, and the region of former Yugoslavia, has been realized in cooperation with the Goethe Institute of Bucharest, Goethe Centers of Cluj and Iasi, the U.S. Embassy of Kosovo, and Embassies of Israel in both Serbia and Romania. Katz has exhibited/ performed at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium (2011), Diehl CUBE Berlin (2013), P.P.O.W. Gallery, New York (2013), Stacion Center for Contemporary Art, Pristina (2014), Kunstwechsel, Aachen (2015), DNA Berlin (2015), and ROCKELMANN& Berlin (2016). She studied in New York at the Parsons School of Design and earned a Meisterschülerin title from the Berlin University of the Arts (Class of Katharina Sieverding). Katz has been based in Berlin since 2008.
